Sagay councilors to act on alleged rape cases

The Sagay Sangguniang Panlungsod members vowed, through legislation, to help education stakeholders put a stop to alleged rape cases in the city to protect the students.

During a recent stakeholders’ forum at Balay Kauswagan, Councilor Roldan Gamao said that these incidents have been discussed by the SP and he assured that, through legislation, they can enforce measures to ensure the security and protection of the learners.

Since last month, alleged rape cases and harassment have been spreading on social media, victimizing Sagaynon students.

Along with Gamao, SP members Arthur Christopher Marañon, Perfecto Marañon, and Concepcion Javellana, City Administrator Atty. Ryan Bonghanoy, executive assistant Beethoven Fuentesfina Jr., and action officer for Nutrition Mary Vesie Tajanlangit represented the government sector during the forum Nov. 23.

Gamao assured that the committees on women, peace and order, and education have been making ways to address the immediate concern.

The councilor also urged the cooperation of Sagaynons, especially the barangay officials, police, and other uniformed personnel to help stop these incidents, the city said in a press release.

The forum, hosted by the Department of Education-Division of Sagay City, aimed to gather the stakeholders to initiate strategies and innovations for education, in support of the implementation of the Learning Continuity and Recovery Plan.

The presentation of the SDO Sagay Situation Report also highlighted the event.

Bonghanoy also presented the education programs implemented by the city government in 2023, and he emphasized that more programs will be implemented and partnered with DepEd-Sagay next year. ||
