The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines recently donated two three-seater kayaks to a community-based tourism association in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, under the Board’s Marketing Enhancement Program.

Officers and members of the Lapus Lapus Floating Cottages Assn., inside the Lapus Lapus-Macapagao Local Conservation Area, thanked the TPB for the donation, the city said in a press release April 26.

This is the second wave of support from the TPB to Sagay’s community-based tourism (CBT) association, following a two-day familiarization tour in the city last November.

The first donation was in January 2023 and included kayaks, t-shirt uniforms for three CBT associations, catering materials, and communication equipment.

This initiative aligns with the seven-point agenda of Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, particularly its focus on strengthening sustainability programs and promoting untapped destinations.

A key component of the sustainable development goals of TPB, led by Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, is the promotion of community-based tourism, which aims to foster more authentic and sustainable tour packages that highlight the country’s rich natural and cultural heritage, as well as the warm and welcoming hospitality of the Filipinos.

The CBT associations expressed their gratitude for the program, which has put them on the map and highlights the city’s sustainability efforts within the communities.

Sagay Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. and Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva also thanked the TPB for this impactful program, the city added. ||
