A courtesy meeting was held at the Governor’s Office within the Capitol building in Dumaguete City recently to foster dialogue and address pertinent issues concerning the Tabo sa PAO vendors.
The activity, led by Negros Oriental Governor Chaco Sagarbarria, was aimed at facilitating open communication among key stakeholders, including government officials, vendors, and representatives from Philsouth and the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO).
The discussion centered on identifying a suitable relocation site that would accommodate the vendors’ needs while aligning with the government’s development plans, especially with the construction of the New Medical City, the Capitol said in a press release June 21.

The selected relocation site aims to provide better facilities, accessibility, and safety for both vendors and customers, it added.
The vendors expressed concerns about the adequacy of the new site in terms of space, utilities, and accessibility. Some also raised issues regarding the timeline of the relocation process, and the need for clear communication and support during the transition.
There were also discussions on ensuring that the relocated area maintains the vibrancy of the market while providing a conducive environment for business, the Capitol said.
A joint task force was later proposed to oversee the relocation process, ensuring timely and efficient implementation. Continued consultations will also be conducted to keep vendors updated and involved in decision-making.
The provincial government, led by Sagarbarria, reaffirmed its dedication to supporting local vendors and enhancing public markets’ infrastructure, ensuring that progress benefits all community members, the Capitol said.
Aside from Sagarbarria and Tabo sa PAO vendors, others in attendance were representatives from Philsouth, provincial agriculturist Emmanuel Caduyac, and provincial engineer Andre Reyes, among others. ||
