The stretch of Araneta Street in downtown Bacolod, from corner Philippine National Bank to corner Banco de Oro, will become a night market for 10 days, starting on Dec. 14, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod adopted yesterday afternoon, Dec. 11, the resolution of the Local Market Committee (LMC) recommending to Mayor Alfredo Benitez and the SP the temporary full closure of this road stretch on Dec. 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31 to accommodate a night market organized by the Bacolod Dry Goods Association Inc.
The LMC resolution, approved during the committee meeting Dec. 10, was signed by City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea as chairperson with Councilor Celia Matea Flor, City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr., and City Treasurer Arlene Memoria as members.
Flor, chairperson of the SP Committee on Markets, told her colleagues during their session this afternoon that the participating vendors will have to secure a special permit from the city before they are allowed to set up their goods.
The LMC was earlier asked by the SP to come up with a consolidated report and recommendation regarding several requests from vendors’ groups to sell goods this Christmas season. | CGC
