Work continues to expand the promenade area at Rizal Boulevard towards the Pantawan II People’s Park in Dumaguete City.
This is to comfortably and safely accommodate joggers and strollers while ensuring a buffer zone of approximately eight meters to protect the facilities in the vicinity and prevent further erosion and damage, the city said March 20.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said the ongoing construction of shoreline protection, from Pantawan 1 to Pantawan 2, including the promenade, involves the provision of reinforced concrete wave deflector and wave breaker blocks.

This will make it resilient and effective in protecting lives and properties from storm surges and big waves, especially during inclement weather aggravated by climate change.
The project was deemed necessary as the existing seawall protecting the beachfront is in danger of possible collapse and continued deterioration of the structure, the city said.
The project has been granted a Certificate of Non-Coverage from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, it added. ||
