Remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA) have claimed responsibility for burning the heavy equipment at a farm in Barangay Libacao, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on March 7.

In a statement, the Romeo Nanta Command accused the management of Hacienda San Jose Valing of exploiting farm workers, denying their due basic benefits.

The rebel remnants torched three tractors, a crane, and a back hoe.

Arson investigators of the Bureau of Fire and Protection estimated the damage at P7 million.

Investigation of the Himamaylan City police showed the fire originated from a tractor parked near the fuel storage area and spread to the other heavy equipment. | GB
