The New People’s Army (NPA) claimed responsibility for the deaths of two persons they alleged as military informants in Calatrava, Negros Occidental and in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

In a statement, the NPA Roselyn Jean Pelle Command identified the first victim as Jonesly Vallente Sr., a former member of the defunct Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade, who was killed on July 11 in Sitio Harvey, Barangay Minapasuk, Calatrava.

Police investigation showed that Vallente, 58, was on his way to his farm when he was waylaid and shot by six armed men.

Three fired cartridges of M16 rifle and a caliber .45 pistol were recovered from the scene of the incident.

The Leonardo Panaligan Command issued a statement, claiming responsibility for the death of Jeremias Bianggos, 59, on July 16 in Barangay Imelda, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

The Commission on Human Rights has started a motu proprio investigation into the recent wave of killings in Negros Occidental, where 10 civilians accused by the NPA as military spies were gunned down since March this year. | GB
