The New People’s Army (NPA) has claimed responsibility for the summary executions of two civilians they accused of being military informants – Wilmar Amosco in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, and Virginia Salmorenante in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
In a statement, Ka JB Regalado, spokesperson of Leonardo Panaligan Command, said Amosco, 48, was a barangay tanod who served in the intelligence operation of the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion.
He was killed by rebels in Sitio Inumulan, Barangay Bucalan, Canlaon City on Dec. 23.
Ka Andrea Guerrero reported what they considered as the imposition of death penalty on Salmorenante in Sitio Fabrica, Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City on Dec. 20.
Meanwhile on Dec. 24, two unidentified men shot to death a 55-year-old widow while she was sleeping at home in Sitio Makilo also in Barangay Camansi.
The assailants fled towards a nearby rice field.
Authorities are still validating reports the suspects were members of the NPA. | GB
