Remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA) in northern Negros claimed responsibility for the summary execution of a civilian and the death of a policeman in the hinterlands of Calatrava town on Dec. 7.
In a statement, the NPA Jean Pelle Command said it carried out a punitive action against Mando Ugdiman, 58, in Sitio Tagda, Barangay Dolis.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim was outside his house preparing to attend mass, when six armed men arrived, and shot him twice in the head.
Rebel spokesperson Cecille Estrella alleged that Ugdiman was serving as an active military spy.
They claimed to have recovered a caliber .45 pistol and ammunition from Ugdiman.
The NPA remnants also admitted responsibility for the death of Senior Master Sgt. Rommel Aguilar, a member of the 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the recovery of his 9mm service firearm with several ammunition.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office strongly condemned the continued killings of civilians and also of Aguilar in northern Negros. | GB
