Rachael Sun from Bago City, Negros Occidental started competing and winning medals in various dancesport competitions, Latin Dance category, since grade school.
With her dance partner, Jeremiah Gazo, they were a finalist in the Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association (WVRAA) Meet, and later, bagged the championship in Latin Dance of the Panaad Dancesport event.
Rachael was also a member of the UNO-Recoletos’ Kasadyahan Dance Company, and in 2010, with Philip Lui Deocadiz as dance partner, won the gold medal in the NOPSSCEA Latin Dance competition.
Rachael pursued her dance career in Manila in 2011 and joined amateur dancesport competitions with partner Jevany Lamela. From being a finalist in regional contests, the duo brought their skills and talent to the national stage, and later, competed in international contests.
She attributes her success in her dancing career to her dedication, passion, hard work, and faith in God. These traits, she said, led her to the Philippine Dancesport National Team, where she and her dance partner, Elmar Dizon, represented the country.
“It was a dream come true to carry the Philippine Flag in international competitions. Winning for the country is a great honor,” she said.
Rachael and Elmar were silver medalists in the TLOC-DanceSport Championship in Vietnam; bronze winners in the World Dancesport Cebu Open; and ranked eighth out of more than a hundred couples in the WDSF Thailand King’s Cup.
They were also a finalist in Taipei, Taiwan’s WDSF Grand Slam Latin Dance category.
Rachael is a true artist and an ambassador of the world of dance. Her skill, passion, and dedication are an inspiration to others and her performances are a testament to the power of movement to tell a story and connect with others.
We look forward to seeing where her career takes her and the impact she will continue to make in the world of dance. ||
