The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) rescued 167 animals from the six-kilometer radius permanent danger zone of La Castellana in Negros Occidental over the weekend.

In her report to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Dec. 16, Dr. Placeda Lemana, provincial veterinarian, said that the PVO Quick Response Team complied with the governor’s order that “no animals should be left behind”.

The evacuated animals, mostly goats and carabaos, came from the barangays of Cabagna-an and Biak Na Bato, and were brought to the Colegio de La Castellana grounds.

At the same time, the PVO also recorded deaths of a carabao, cattle, goats and fighting cocks in the cities of Bago, La Carlota and La Castellana.

The six-kilometer radius permanent danger zone of Mt. Kanlaon is now off limits to its residents.

PCapt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said the police established checkpoints along the major roads to ensure that nobody will enter the PDZ. | GB
