PVO reports P3.3M damage to livestock

The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has reported a P3.3-million damage to livestock industry in Negros Occidental due to the effects of enhanced southwest monsoon in the previous weeks.

Dr. Placeda Lemana, provincial veterinarian, said in her report submitted to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson dated Sept. 23, that 3,108 animals, mostly chickens, died in 71 barangays of 15 affected local government units (LGUs).

Number of affected households was placed at 402.

Hardest hit was Isabela town, with damage amounting to P1.116 million, affecting 122 households with 1,108 animal mortalities.

Poultry houses were also reported to have collapsed in Silay City, with damage placed at P20,000.

In a report of the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council, damage to the agriculture sector was pegged P146.184 million, including P1.781 million losses in fisheries.

To avail of their respective calamity funds, the municipalities of San Enrique, Hinigaran, Valladolid as well as La Carlota City declared a state of calamity in their areas last week. | GB
