In line with the National and Local Elections (NLE) on Monday, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region said it will strictly implement a region-wide liquor ban on May 11 to 12, pursuant to Comelec Resolution No. 11057.
The liquor ban covers the sale, purchase, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places, to help ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
P/Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, stressed that full compliance is expected from the public and business establishments alike.
“The liquor ban is a critical component of our security preparations for NLE 2025. We call on everyone to cooperate and remain responsible citizens to help ensure credible, safe, and peaceful elections throughout the Negros Island Region,” Ibay said in a statement May 9.
The PRO-NIR, in coordination with local government units and the Comelec, will deploy monitoring teams and conduct inspections of establishments to ensure adherence to the ban. Violators may face penalties under existing election laws, including imprisonment and fines.
Residents, tourists, and business owners are urged to comply and to report any violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station. ||
