The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) led by PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay commemorated the National Day of Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of the Special Action Force 44 in Bacolod City on Sunday.

The ceremony, held in front of PRO-NIR Administration Building at Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr., pays tribute to the bravery, patriotism, and ultimate sacrifice of the 44 fallen police commandos who laid down their lives in the service of peace, security, and the Filipino people.

Together with the 6th Special Action Battalion of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force, the program was marked by a moment of silence and the offering of wreaths in honor of the SAF 44, whose courage in the line of duty remains a powerful symbol of selfless service and unwavering commitment to the nation.

Through this year’s theme, “Courage Beyond Measure: Remembering the Sacrifice of the SAF 44 for Peace,” PRO-NIR underscored the enduring legacy of the fallen heroes whose sacrifice continues to inspire members of the PNP to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, honor, and dedication to duty.

In his message, Ibay recalled that the 44 SAF members answered the highest call of duty in Mamasapano, choosing courage over comfort, mission over self, and service over personal safety 11 years ago.

“Their sacrifice was a conscious act of valor, borne of discipline, faith, and unwavering commitment to the Filipino people, and their heroism reshaped institutions and strengthened national resolve,” he added.

He added that “their story serves as a mirror for the police profession, showing that the uniform is not merely a symbol of authority but a covenant of service, a promise to stand when the nation calls and to remain steadfast in the face of danger”.  | GB
