The PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. (PWIC) committed additional volume of water for Bacolod residents, adding it recognizes the importance of ensuring a reliable and sufficient supply to meet the growing needs of the community.
PWIC president Roberto Fabrique Jr., in his letter to Mayor Alfredo Benitez March 7 and made public March 13, said the company, which has a 25-year joint venture agreement with the Bacolod City Water District, has devised a plan that will allow PrimeWater to deliver additional seven million liters of water per day (MLD) to a maximum volume of 17MLD to residents of Bacolod.
“This plan entails the utilization of additional water sources to supplement our existing infrastructure, alongside extensive repairs and improvements, to reduce water loss,” Fabrique said in his Letter of Undertaking.
He added that within five months, PWIC will implement the optimization of 12 identified deep wells that can produce about 7MLD of water volume.
There is also a water source interconnection and pipelaying project to divert 2MLD of supply, from the Forbes Hill pumping station to different areas in Bacolod, including Eroreco Subdivision, Barangay Bata, and various parts of Barangay Mandalagan.
PWIC will also activate the Highland Hills Subdivision water source to produce water volume of up to 1MLD; and ensure massive leak repairs or non-revenue water reduction which will result in additional 2MLD of recovered water.
Fabrique also took note of the 5MLD production, from the Bocal-bocal Spring in Alangilan, although he said that this is subject to the availability and interconnection of pipes as well as the agreement between Primewater and the water source owner/operator on rates and other terms and conditions for extraction and supply.
Last week, the city said it started pipelaying works for the Bocal-bocal connection.
“Our undertaking to supply additional water volume from the foregoing projects is conditioned upon the result of water quality tests and compliance with other regulatory requirements,” Fabrique said, but he stressed that Primewater will “exert best efforts and collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders and regulatory authorities to address any issue or constraint that may affect this undertaking.”
He said the company is committed to address the challenges posed by climate change, population growth, and urbanization in Bacolod. “By undertaking these proactive measures, we aim to safeguard the well-being and prosperity of the residents and businesses that rely on our services.” | CGC
