Ten families were preemptively evacuated May 13, after a portion of the retaining wall along the Palampas River in Purok Tindalo, Brgy. 1 Poblacion, San Carlos City, showed signs of potential collapse.
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Joe Alingasa Jr. said that the pre-emptive evacuation was part of their disaster risk and reduction measures, after early signs were noted that the river retaining wall, where the affected families are residing, may collapse due to scouring.
Alingasa said the affected families are now temporarily staying at the city evacuation center and were provided food by the barangay.
The initial investigation on ground fissures was conducted by the CDRRMO Risk Assessment Team, assisted by the Department of Public Works and Highways, as well as the City Engineer’s Office.
Brgy. Capt. Joselito Lopez, and kagawad John Pomar Jr. also led the CDRRMO personnel in the evacuation of the affected residents./GB
