A taskforce composed of government agencies, industry stakeholders, and community representatives was formed to oversee the implementation of the Negros Occidental Energy Development Roadmap.

The collaborative team, established during the Provincial Stakeholders’ Consultative Power Summit hosted by the provincial government of Negros Occidental, with the University of St. La Salle May 3, has been tasked to gather insights and recommendations in preparation for the finalization of the roadmap to ensure a seamless transition to renewable energy sources while maintaining power security and reliability in the province.

Summit participants highlighted the importance of promoting energy efficiency measures and integrating innovative technologies to optimize energy consumption across different sectors while emphasizing the need for a multi-stakeholder approach in transitioning towards renewable energy.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, in his keynote address, reiterated the province’s dedication to sustainable development and environmental stewardship. He also highlighted the role of renewable energy in enhancing power security, reducing carbon emissions, mitigating climate change impacts, and fostering economic growth and job creation in Negros Occidental.

Stakeholders further explored the potential for public-private partnerships to expedite the deployment of renewable energy projects and attract investments in the province’s energy sector, a Capitol press release said.

Identified collaboration areas include research and development, advocacy for policy and regulatory reforms, upgrading of power transmission and distribution systems, provision of LGU incentives and other support measures, and measures to improve access to financing and technical support for power consumers transitioning to renewable energy.

To advance the province’s transition to renewable energy, participants reaffirmed their collective commitment and pledged to collaborate closely towards a more resilient and sustainable energy future.

Capitol, meanwhile, will host the Renewable Energy Week on May 20-24, in line with the SecuRE Negros campaign and in compliance with Executive Order 04-09, series of 2024. ||
