The Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) has reported “zero major crimes” in Western Visayas as the region welcomed the New Year peacefully and orderly on Monday.
However, two stray bullet cases and an indiscriminate firing incident during the New Year’s eve revelries are being investigated, its spokesperson, PMaj. Mary Grace Socorro Borio, said.
Data of PRO-6 showed that 142 firecracker-related incidents were reported in Region 6 from Dec. 16 to Jan. 2.

In all these incidents, 146 individuals were injured, of which 91 are minors.
Borio said the conduct of crime prevention efforts and increased police visibility operations led to the decrease in the eight focus crimes.
Based on the comparative statistics, crime incidents from Dec. 31, 2023 to Jan. 1, 2024 dropped by 53.12 percent to only 15 cases, fewer than the previous year’s 32 cases.
Of the 15 cases, three were murder, three homicide, six physical injury, one robbery, and two theft cases. | GB
