The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) cautioned job applicants to South Korea in dealing with language training centers that promise overseas employment.

POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia, in Advisory No. 147, series of 2020, said job applicants should not entertain social media posts or any offers of overseas employment made by Korean language training centers, schools or institutes. – CGC

“Investigation by the POEA revealed that the scheme involves inviting applicants to enroll in Korean language courses with a promise of employment in Korea. Some language training centers also use the logo and the name of the POEA without consent and permission,” he said.

Olalia also warns the public about language training centers promising Test of Proficiency in Korean Language through Employment Permit System (EPS-TOPIK) with “sure pass” guarantees.

The POEA Government Placement Branch does not accredit or enter into partnerships with any language training center/school/institute as part of its EPS program, the advisory said.

Job applicants are advised to check the official website of the POEA at www.poea.gov.ph or email the POEA Information Center at connect@poea.gov.ph for employment opportunities and schedules of EPS-TOPIK.

The POEA is also urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspected illegal recruitment schemes to its Anti-Illegal Recruitment Branch, Operations and Surveillance Division, at poea_airb_osd@yahoo.com or call 8722-1192.
