The New Year’s eve celebration in Negros Occidental was generally peaceful as there was no untoward incident reported to the local police.
Both Lt. Col. Ariel Pico and Lt. Abegael Donasco, spokespersons of the Bacolod City Police Office and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said they have not recorded any incident of illegal discharge of firearms or stray bullet.
As of this time, the local police have yet to receive any report of firecracker-related incident.
The police, however, arrested a certain Cris Mediana on Dec. 31 in Purok Daro, Brgy. Bulanon, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, for illegal possession of firearms.
The arrest of 32-year-old Mediana yielded a 45 caliber pistol with a magazine containing five live ammunition, the police said.
A homemade 12 gauge shotgun with three live ammunition was also recovered by barangay tanod members Levi Geal and Jose Toreña from the possession of Oneber Allosa, also on Dec. 31 in Sitio Undol, Brgy. Camugao, Kabankalan City.
Investigations of the Kabankalan police showed that Allosa tried to shoot the two barangay tanods, who responded to a commotion. The barangay tanods managed to disarm Allosa after the gun failed to fire
The suspect is now detained at the custodial facility of the Kabankalan City Police Station. — GB
