The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has a new acting chief, following a major leadership reshuffle within the police organization.
PBrig. Gen. Romano Cardiño assumed as PRO-NIR acting regional director, succeeding PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, who was reassigned as deputy chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Directorate for Education and Training.
The change of leadership was held during the ceremonial joint turn-over of offices at Camp Crame on Friday (May 8).

PLt. Gen. Bernard Banac, acting deputy chief for administration and representative of PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., presided over the turn-over ceremony between Cardiňo and Ibay, who served as PRO-NIR director for more than one year.
PRO-NIR spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong said the designation of Cardiňo is expected to bring renewed energy and momentum to the regional police force as it intensifies operations against criminality, illegal drugs, loose firearms, and wanted persons, while strengthening intelligence-driven and proactive policing strategies.
Malong also credited Ibay for strengthening operational accomplishments and community-oriented policing initiatives during his tenure. | GB
