A 3.3-hour-long ash emission was logged at Mount Kanlaon March 31, starting at 3:24 p.m., and generated voluminous ash plumes as tall as 1,500 meters from the summit crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

In its advisory at 10:04 p.m., Phivolcs said ashfall was reported in Sitio Guintubdan and Barangay Araal proper in La Carlota City.

“The DOST-Phivolcs used computer simulations of the Kanlaon Volcano ash emission on March 31 to guide ashfall impact monitoring for the communities. These maps were generated using plume height data…and an eruption duration of 3.3 hours,” it added.

The Office of Civil Defense, meanwhile, urged residents of La Carlota City, Bago City, and other nearby towns to expect ashfall.
