Personnel of the Coast Guard District Southern Visayas (CGDSV), under the leadership of Commodore Ludovico Librilla Jr., conducted a scubasurero and coastal cleanup in Sitio Tambobo, Barangay Bonbonon, Siaton in Negros Oriental Aug. 11.

Fifteen sacks of assorted garbage both from land and sea were collected by the 72 participants in around 1,000 meters of coastal and underwater zones, the CGDSV said.

“This initiative underscores the CGDSV’s mission of protecting marine biodiversity, combat pollution, and inspire communities to take an active role in safeguarding our seas,” it added.

The activity was in partnership with the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group–Southern Visayas and the Coast Guard Special Operations Group–Southern Visayas, with the support of the Siaton local government, Marine Conservation Philippines, Pro Ocean, and the Siaton Fisherfolk and Workers Association.

A similar activity was also held in Barangay Poblacion, Siquijor last month, led by the Coast Guard Station Siquijor. The successfully conduct of scubasurero, coral planting, and restoration activity promoted coastal and marine environmental protection through underwater cleanup.

Coral fragments, meanwhile, were transplanted into designated nursery sites, the CGDSV said. “Through these collective efforts, CGDSV remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the marine environment.” ||
