President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act (RA) No. 12002, creating the Negros Occidental Fifth District Engineering Office (DEO) that will be located in the City of San Carlos.
RA 12002, signed June 13 and made public June 18, states that this additional DEO will serve the cities of Escalante and San Carlos, and the municipalities of Toboso, Calatrava, and Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental.
It will receive funding from the national government’s annual budget, the Presidential Communications Office said.
Negros Occidental solons Gerardo Valmayor Jr. (1st District), Alfredo Marañon III (2nd District), Juliet Marie Ferrer (4th District), and Mercedes Alvarez (6th District), pushed for the creation of the Fifth DEO through House Bill 1043, that was passed by the House of Representatives on March 21, 2023.
The Senate approved it on third and final reading March 13 this year./CGC
