The Department of Labor and Employment has issued the pay rules for the four regular holidays and one special nonworking day in April.

These include the Eid’l Fitr on April 1, Araw ng Kagitingan – April 9, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, on April 17 and 18, and the special day on April 19, Black Saturday.

For work done during the declared regular holiday, a private sector employee must be paid 200 percent of his or her wage for that day for the first eight hours; and an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate, for work done in excess of eight hours, computed as rate of the basic wage x 200 percent x 130 percent x number of hours worked.

“If the employee does not work during the declared regular holiday, the employer shall pay 100 percent of the employee’s wage for that day,” DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said in Labor Advisory 04-2025.

For Black Saturday, the DOLE said the “no work, no pay” principle shall apply, “unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day.”

For work done during the special day, an employee should receive an additional 30 percent of the basic wage on the first eight hours of work; and an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate, for work done in excess of eight hours. | CGC
