The “patikanay” – a drumbeating competition – headlined the opening salvo of Cadiz City’s 50th Dinagsa Festival culmination Monday night.

Considered as Cadiz’s hallmark of cultural celebration, “patikanay” once again showcased the artistry, rhythm and passion of the local tribes in an electrifying event.

Named after the Hiligaynon term “patik,” which means to beat or tap rhythmically, it symbolizes the festive and dynamic vibe of Dinagsa festival.

This year’s competition brought together tribes from across the city that competed fiercely yet harmoniously to claim top honors.

The winners included Tribu Hitalon (Barangays Zone 1 and 6), champion; Tribu TiBanDa (Barangays Tiglawigan, Banquerohan and Daga), second place;  Tribu Vil-Gus (Barangays Celestino Villacin and V.F. Gustilo), formerly known as Tribu Sewanara, third place;  Tribu MaJeCa (Barangays Magsaysay, Jerusalem and Cabahug), fourth place; Tribu Yabyab Dongol (Barangays Zone 2 and 5), fifth place.

Winning the special awards were Tribu Hitalon and Tribu MaJeca for best in presentation and costume, respectively.

The competition was judged by a panel of esteemed individuals such as Marcelino Labtic Jr., Luis Osmeña Jr., and Louis Dormido, who praised the participants for their creativity, skill, and cultural expression. ||
