Passenger dies, dozens injured in vehicular accident

A bus passenger died while more than 30 others were injured when they met an accident on their way home to Bacolod City Friday afternoon, June 14.

The bus fell on its side along Purok Talos in Barangay Igmayaan, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.

Mayor Laurence Marxlen de la Cruz said that among the passengers, 36 were reported as teachers of Paglaum Village Elementary School in Bacolod City.

Driver Nelmore Gonzaga told RMN DYHB that he was negotiating downhill when he lost control of the bus after its brake malfunctioned.

The passenger bus, owned by the Bacolod City government, fell on its side, said Gonzaga, who was unhurt.

He is now in the custody of the Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station.

The injured passengers were brought to different hospitals in Bacolod City.

The teachers came from a team building activity at Sipaway Island, San Carlos City.

Purok Talos is considered as an accident-prone area in Don Salvador Benedicto. | GB
