The Department of Public Works and Highways Region 6 said Feb. 23 that the left side of the Mansilingan Bridge, near Bangga Pari in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic on Feb. 28, starting at 9 a.m.

This is to pave the way for the concrete pouring of the bridge slab, the DPWH advisory said as it advised motorists and the riding public to take extra precaution against sudden traffic buildup.

The DPWH Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office, meanwhile, said it completed a slope protection project, worth P49-million, in Hacienda Antolanga, Barangay Tinongan in Isabela, Negros Occidental.

The project included the construction of a 117.6-lineal meter concrete slope protection on steel sheet piles foundation using U type, with concrete pile cap and horizontal rebars that serve as crucial bank protection, DPWH6 regional director Sanny Boy Oropel, said in a statement.

“This project addresses the damage caused by successive typhoons and strong currents from the upstream portion of the river, ensuring the safety of residents and their properties,” Oropel said.

Access from Purok Pinya to Purok Saging in Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, on the other hand, has been improved with the concreting of a 1.16-lane kilometer long, five-meter wide, two-lane Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) with one-meter shoulder on both sides.

The project, worth P10-million, involved the construction of a slope protection structure to ensure stability of the pavement; and the installation of reflectorized thermoplastic markings for the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and all road users.

“The paved road will facilitate faster mobility of people, goods and services, and create more economic opportunities in the locality,” Oropel said.

DPWH Negros Occidental Sub DEO OIC District Engineer Juan Alfonso Jorbina Sr. also said the newly-paved road connects the two remote areas of Barangay Bunga, providing linkage for socio-economic activities of residents. | CGC
