Palace declares holiday in Talisay

Malacañang has declared today, Feb. 11, as special (nonworking) day in Talisay City, Negros Occidental in commemoration of the city’s 28th founding anniversary.

The city said Feb. 10 that the celebration marks nearly three decades of growth, progress, and shared history.

Mayor Rowena “Weng” Lopez Lizares said the 28th Pasidungog Festival “is a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, and remind (us of) our commitment to service, filled with love and compassion.”

In the Pasundayag sang DepEd folkdance contest, the Notre Dame of Talisay wins the championship, with Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School as first runner-up, and Prestige Comprehensive School Inc. as second runner-up (top to above).

The declaration aims to give the people of Talisay the full opportunity to participate in, celebrate, and enjoy the activities lined up for the Pasidungog celebration, the city said. “It likewise recognizes the collective efforts of its leaders, workers, and constituents in building a dynamic, resilient, and culturally rich community.”

The special holiday allows residents to honor their heritage, strengthen community bonds, and take pride in the City’s achievements and aspirations for the future. “As Talisay celebrates 28 years as a city, this occasion serves not only as a festive gathering but also as a moment of reflection on its journey and a renewed commitment to unity, progress, and service for generations to come”.

Meanwhile, students from Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School emerged as champion in the Pasundayag sang DepEd popdance competition, with Notre Dame of Talisay as first runner-up, and Prestige Comprehensive School Inc. as second runner-up.

Consolation prizes were received by Don Simplicio Lizares Memorial High School, Dr. Antonio A. Lizares Memorial High School-Extension, Colegio San Nicolas de Tolentino-Recoletos, Don Hilarion G. Gonzaga Memorial High School, Dr. Antonio A. Lizares Memorial High School, and Inocencio V. Ferrer Memorial School of Fisheries.
