A 33-year-old man was shot to death by his own father on July 2, following an altercation during a drinking session at Purok Sambag in Barangay Libas, Isabela, Negros Occidental.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Jr.,” was declared dead on arrival at Ignacio Arroyo Memorial District Hospital in Isabela, after sustaining a gunshot wound to his right shoulder.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Asiong,” 74.
Initial police investigation showed the victim and the suspect were drinking together at the victim’s house along with two companions when the victim figured in a heated argument with one of the guests.
The father intervened, but this led to a verbal confrontation between him and his son.
The suspect then returned to his residence, but later heard the victim shouting from a nearby sugarcane field, challenging him to come out.
Police said the suspect went back to the area and fired an improvised shotgun at the victim.
The victim was rushed to the hospital by his family, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Responding police officers arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered the improvised shotgun believed to have been used in the killing. | GPB
