The Dumaguete City Development Council Executive Committee, chaired by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, unanimously approved requests to allocate P60 million for the establishment of wastewater treatment facilities at Rizal Boulevard and other waterways, and P31.5 million for the purchase of seven additional septage hauling trucks.
Remollo said that the wastewater treatment facilities will address concerns on wastewater discharge at Rizal Boulevard and other waterways, while the procurement of seven septage hauling trucks, in addition to the three already purchased by the city government, will help answer the current backlogs on the removal of sludge from septic tanks of homeowner-constituents and establishments.
These projects will further improve the quality of water and environment that will benefit the health and welfare of Dumaguete residents and visitors, the city said.
Also approved by the CDC Execom is the allotment of an additional P10 million for the city slaughterhouse improvement/rehabilitation to achieve an AAA rating; additional P3.4 million for the five percent Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Fund; and P3.4 million for the five percent Gender and Development (GAD).
The total P108. 3 million will be sourced from the underestimated income and unappropriated surplus, certified available by the City Accountant, City Budget Officer, and the City Treasurer.
These proposals are in response to earlier recommendations from the Dumaguete Sangguniang Panlungsod on the purchase of additional septage hauling trucks, wastewater treatment facilities, and additional funding for the improvement/rehabilitation of the slaughterhouse that can be addressed through a supplemental budget.
The proposed projects and funding have already been forwarded to the SP for appropriate action. ||
