Negros Oriental police seized over a kilogram of suspected shabu, worth around P7.3 million, from a 45-year-old suspect during a buy-bust operation at about 3 p.m. Sept. 10 in Purok San Sebastian, Barangay Buntis in Bacong town.

Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO), told the Philippine News Agency Sept. 12 that the man, identified only as alias “Opaw”, is considered a “high-value” drug suspect.

“We are looking into reports that outside sources of shabu shipped to Negros Oriental are distributed to local suppliers, who are told through phone calls to get the illegal drugs at a designated pickup point,” Polinar said.

The suspect is in custody and documents are being prepared for the filing of charges in court, in violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the Police Regional Office in Region 7 said.

PRO7 director, P/Brig. General Anthony Aberin, commended personnel of NOPPO, particularly the operatives of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit/Provincial Intelligence Unit for the successful interception of the illegal drugs and the arrest of a high-value suspect.

“In close coordination with other law enforcement agencies and the support of the Central Visayas community, these drug personalities will all soon be arrested,” Aberin said in a statement, adding that this objective will be achieved by and through the observance of Police Operational Procedures and due process of law. ||
