A proposed ordinance imposing a mayor’s permit fee of P500 per post erected on government roads or highways in Bacolod City is being deliberated by the Sangguniang Panlungsod members.
The proposal, which will undergo a public hearing following its approval on first reading by the SP last week, is authored by councilors Vladimir Gonzalez and Renecito Novero.
“Electric and/or telecommunication poles, posts, and towers are sprouting everywhere in Bacolod…which pose hazard to traffic and the safety of the public if they are not well maintained,” hence the need for some forms of regulation, the proposed ordinance said.
Covered in the proposal are the construction, installation, and maintenance of electric and/or telecommunication poles, towers, and wires, cables for television and telephone poles within the territorial jurisdiction of Bacolod, except for those owned by the national government, its instrumentalities, and other local government units, the proponents said.
The City Engineer’s Office shall be tasked to conduct a regular inventory of all electric and telecommunication poles, posts, and towers in the city, indicate the respective owners, and submit the list to the City Treasurer’s Office in the imposition of the fee at P500 per post per year, they added./CGC
