P49M upgraded classrooms turned over in San Carlos

Twenty-three newly-rehabilitated classrooms at Don Carlos Ledesma National High School (DCLNHS) in Brgy. Buluangan, San Carlos City, were turned over May 30.

The Department of Education allocated P49.5 million for the project, through the Office of 1st District Rep. Gerardo Valmayor Jr., implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways from November 2023 to October 2024.

Councilor Victoriana Cabili, who represented Mayor Renato Gustilo during the ceremony, stressed that a school is more than just a place for learning; it is where a student’s character is formed, friendships are built, and futures are shaped.

She added that the new classrooms will serve as spaces for exploration and inspiration, symbolizing the government’s deep commitment to youth, the city said.

The Office of the Schools Division superintendent and officer-in-charge, Ma. Teresa Geroso, thanked local government leaders for their support.

She said the provision of 23 classrooms addresses the needs of students for the 2025–2026 school year that will start on June 16, and serves as an investment in the future and proof of strong partnerships.

DCLNHS principal III Hernan Hemida said the project represents progress, hope, and a shared commitment to excellence. He also pledged to take care of the project for the students, faculty, and community’s welfare.

The school’s faculty president, Loremon Bernaje, urged students to maximize the use of the new classrooms, encouraging them to dream big, explore new ideas, and strive for academic excellence.

Fr. Reymond Cañete of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish officiated in the blessing of the 23 classrooms.

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting followed, led by Geroso, Hemida, Cristina, and Carlo Ledesma, representing incoming 1st District Rep. Julio Ledesma IV.

Also in attendance were Planning and Design Section chief of the DPWH Negros Occidental 5th Engineering Office, Engr. Vengie Moraca, OIC assistant schools division superintendent Heidelyn Geromiano, Buluangan punong barangay Desiderio Enarciso, and other DepEd officials, teachers, students, and community members. ||
