The P45-million Old Sagay Public Market in Brgy. Old Sagay was inaugurated June 11, in time for the 29th charter anniversary of the city.
The inauguration of the two-storey building was led by Sagay City Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva, and 2nd District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, among others.
The building features eight commercial blocks, 26 fish stalls, seven meat stalls, 12 vegetable stalls, and three comfort rooms on the first floor. The second floor has 11 stalls designed for cafes and restaurants, and also with comfort rooms, the city said in a press release June 13.

The project also integrated a Material Recovery Facility, a sewage treatment plant, and a water system.
Javelosa urged prospective vendors and sellers to ensure the care and maintenance of the facility.
Cueva, meanwhile, extended his gratitude to Marañon for facilitating one of the barangay’s most vital infrastructures, especially as it serves as a gateway to the Sagay Marine Reserve.
He also said that additional structures are slated for completion, including amenities that provide easy access for persons with disability and the elderly.
City Engineer Jezreel Alingco shared that “despite setbacks from challenges with informal settlers and resolving boundaries, this project came into fruition, thanks to the firm commitment of our leaders.”
Old Sagay punong barangay Rogelio Sayam expressed his gratitude to the city government and the 2nd Congressional District for the realization of the project, and said he hopes that it will further boost the local economy.
City Administrator, Atty. Ryan Bongganoy, councilors Sherwin Sy, Felisa de la Cruz, and Ching Javellana, and councilors-elect Doc Mel Serondo and Benson Fernandez, along with Old Sagay kagawads and purok chairpersons, were also present during the inauguration. ||
