The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region and the city government of Sagay broke ground on the P25 million component city police station at the New Sagay Public Market in Brgy. Poblacion II June 9.

PRO-NIR deputy director for Administration, P/Col. Dennis Esguerra, with Negros Occidental 2nd District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., and Sagay police chief, Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores, led the groundbreaking rites, along with city councilors and uniformed personnel.

The building will rise on a 1,500-square-meter donated land and will feature a two-storey facility with office spaces, quarters, detention cells, and conference rooms, among others.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the component city police station in Sagay, worth P25 million, was held June 9 at the New Sagay Public Market in Brgy. Poblacion II, and led by PRO-NIR deputy director for Administration, P/Col. Dennis Esguerra, Negros Occidental 2nd District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., and Sagay police chief, Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores. | PIO photo

The ceremony was highlighted by the groundbreaking and official laying of the time-capsule, blessing of the site, and messages from various officials.

Javelosa said the project represents a significant step forward for Sagaynons after it was formalized in 2019.

“We are confident that this project will bring furtherance to community services, developing the values of the Philippine National Police organization and the community involved,” the mayor said in a city press release.

Marañon, who was the mayor when the land for the new police station was donated, said that with this building, the effort of the stakeholders was paid off, with the start of the construction.

With the new police station, the response time of the police will be quicker, and they are more visible to the public, making their services more accessible to Sagaynons.

The building, which has a total cost of P24,949,544.09 from the national government, is expected to be finished by June 9 next year.

PRO-NIR director BGen. Thomas Ibay, in his message read by Esguerra, thanked all those who facilitated the requirements and necessary documents in the construction of the facility.

“May this groundbreaking ceremony serve as an inspiration to us all to strengthen our efforts in law enforcement campaigns against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, loose firearms, and other operations,” he said.

Flores also said that with the new building, they can now upgrade their services while keeping up with modernization. ||
