A total of P2,227,500 in TUPAD (Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers) assistance was turned over to several punong barangays (PBs) by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson March 2.

PBs Rio Pedro of Brgy. Amontay, Jiovanni Yandog of Brgy. Bagroy, Roger Dorimon of Brgy. Santol, and Ma. Elena Alarcon of Brgy. Canmoros, all of Binalbagan, received the assistance at the Capitol in Bacolod City.

TUPAD is a short-term emergency employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that provides temporary jobs and wages to displaced and vulnerable workers through community-based projects.

The 405 beneficiaries from the four barangays are primarily from the agriculture sector and were among those whose farms sustained significant damage due to Typhoon Tino last year, the Capitol said.

The assistance was facilitated by DOLE Negros Occidental Field Office head Carmela Abellar, DOLE TUPAD coordinator Watts Borines, and the Provincial Public Employment Service Office. ||
