The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bago, presided over by Vice Mayor Ramon Torres, June 7 unanimously approved a resolution and an appropriation ordinance allotting P16 million in financial assistance to swine raisers affected by hog cholera.

Councilor Victor Michael Javellana, chairperson of the SP Committee on Agriculture, moved for the passage of a resolution approving the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Resolution No. 2023-05, which earmarked P8 million from the Supplemental Annual Investment Plan Special Trust Fund 2022.

Of the amount, P6 million will be allocated as Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS); P1 million as transboundary animal disease outbreak response; and P1 million for the El Niño Task Force preparedness and response.

The SP, during its session Wednesday, also approved a joint resolution of the Inter-Agency Task Force and the CDRRMC, chaired by Mayor Nicholas Yulo, which provides for the criteria in the release of AICS.

It likewise passed an appropriation ordinance allocating another P8 million for hog raisers affected by transboundary animal diseases, like hog cholera.

The amount will be sourced from the Government Equity Unappropriated Surplus calendar year 2022.

With the approval of the assistance, a family with one to four dead hogs will each receive P3,000; five to 10 dead hogs – P5,000; and 11 dead hogs and above – P8,000.

The number of dead hogs per family will be based on the filled out Dead Investigation Document (DID) forms available in every barangay hall.

“This is just an initial help as we continue to look for more ways to further assist our local hog raisers, including livelihood opportunities for them,” Javellana said in a city press release.

Recipient-raisers may receive the financial assistance as soon as they complete the process, including the submission of documents as required by the veterinary office, he added.*
