Three local construction firms will handle the renovation of the three major public markets of Bacolod City, with total funding of P150 million, starting this month.

City Administrator, Atty. Edward Joseph Cuansing, said the winning bidders were already awarded, and they are waiting for Mayor Evelio Leonardia for the schedule of the ceremonial start of the repairs.

The Bacolod North in Burgos, the Central, and Libertad Market each has an allocation of P50 million, sourced from Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and other national agencies.

The renovation and repair of the three markets of Bacolod City has total funding of P150 million.

The Libertad Market has another P8 million earlier allotted for the specific repair of its annex building.

Cuansing said another amount will be proposed for the putting up of a service elevator, also at the Libertad market annex building, to bring goods to the second floor.

He said some vendors are hesitant to occupy the second floor since buyers prefer to buy their needs from the stores at the ground floor.

The renovation is expected to be finished within the year, he added. — MML
