The construction of Bacolod’s animal shelter in Barangay Granada will start soon, the city said March 13.
The shelter is expected to accommodate up to 1,000 animals, and will have modern design, an office, a multi-purpose hall, and an open space with secure perimeters.

The administration of Mayor Alfredo Benitez is taking a significant step towards addressing the growing population of stray cats and dogs by introducing the largest local government-operated animal shelter in the country as part of its Rabies Prevention and Control Program, the city said.
This initiative aims to provide care and a home for stray, lost, abandoned, and abused cats and dogs.
With this project, Bacolod not only enhances public health but also strengthens its commitment to being an animal-friendly city, ensuring that the community is safer for both its citizens and animals, the city added. ||
