The qualifying age for the ladderized cash incentive centenarian award in Bacolod City is being proposed to start at 75 years old, instead of 80, per Ordinance 910-2019, with the annual allocation also increased, from P5 million to P10 million.
The amendatory ordinance, approved on first reading by the Sangguniang Panlungsod recently and authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, states that “with increasing life expectancy challenges and the recognition that many elderly citizens are already in need of support earlier in their twilight years, it is fitting to begin the incentive program at 75 years old”.
Bona fide Filipino residents of Bacolod, who reach the age of 75 until 80 shall receive an incentive of P10,000; those who reach 81 until 90 shall receive another P10,000; those who reach the age of 91 until 99 shall receive another P10,000; and those who reach the age of 100 shall receive the remaining incentive, provided that they have received all the previous incentives, the proposal added.
The nearest family, relative, or the authorized guardian of the qualified beneficiary may also receive the incentive, in case of death of the payee, subject to verification and evaluation procedures.
“These amendments seek to provide greater inclusivity and encourage earlier recognition of Bacolod’s elderly population, while still preserving the honor and tradition of celebrating our centenarians,” the proposed measure, co-authored by Councilor Celia Matea Flor, stressed.
Ordinance 910-2019, or the ladderized system of granting cash incentives to senior citizens of Bacolod, is a gesture of appreciation for their contributions to the community and to honor them as our living treasures, Distrito added. | CGC
