The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confiscated about P1.83 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City recently.

The operation also led to the arrest of two suspects, with aliases “Primo” and “Mar”, both residents of the same village.

In a report, CIDG said the operatives seized 46 master cases of RDG class classics, GTM filter, Thunder, Green Hills, Cannon, and Modern tobacco products.

The two suspects were caught red-handed selling and trading assorted cigarettes, without the required graphic health warnings and Bureau of Internal Revenue tax stamps.

Such act is a violation of Republic Act 10643 (Graphic Health Warning Law) and Republic Act 8424 (Tax Reform Act of 1997), according to the CIDG. | GB
