Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz joined Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella, Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, and other officials at the opening ceremony for the 2025 National Weightlifting Championships in the city June 8.
The competition at the City National High School gymnasium is ongoing until June 12, and is participated in by lifters from 19 teams from across the country.
These include the Hidilyn Diaz Weightlifting Academy, Ifugao, Zamboanga City, Cebu, Bohol, Tagbilaran, Angono Rizal, Tondo Manila, Pasig City, municipality of Midsalip, Bulacan, Koronadal, Bayawan, San Jose, Consolacion, and Nangka National High School, Philippine Air Force, New Era, GNC, and Fitbox 6100.

Remollo welcomed all the participants and officials of the Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas and thanked them for choosing to hold the national championships in Dumaguete, which he said is the country’s sports tourism destination.
The competition can be watched for free, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and enthusiasts can cheer for their favorite weightlifters, the city said. ||
