The newly-elected officers of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC)-Child Representatives were formally inducted by Victorias Vice Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, on behalf of Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, at the Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center Nov. 13.
The event marked the official installation of these young leaders, who will advocate for children’s welfare and rights in their respective barangays, the city said Nov. 15.
The newly-inducted officers are Trisha Nicole Alsado from Barangay IX as president, Maria Paula Isabel Roa, Barangay V, vice president; Xhyrille Klaire Galon, Barangay I, secretary; Christian Nicole Cawaling, Barangay XVII, treasurer;
Raizelle Ann Tamayo from Barangay XXI as auditor, Angelee Torre, Barangay XIX, and Welyn Grace Benitua from Barangay 6-A, as business managers; and Joshua Tandug, Barangay VII, and Oji Herrera from Barangay II as public information officers.
They were oriented on what’s needed to carry out their responsibilities, as these child leaders are now tasked with promoting child protection, raising awareness about children’s rights, and contributing to programs that ensure the well-being of children in Victorias City.
In attendance at the ceremony were councilors Derek Palanca, Teresita Bartolome, and Audie Malaga, who delivered motivational messages to the newly-inducted child officers.
Bantug, meanwhile, delivered the 2024 Local State of the Children Report, also at the Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center Nov. 13.
The report highlighted the achievements, programs, and initiatives undertaken by the city government, under the administration of Benitez, to support Victoriasanon children throughout the year, reinforcing the city’s dedication to their welfare and development.
Mandated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Memorandum Circular 2005-07, the annual report keeps the community informed about efforts by key children’s duty-bearers and stakeholders, including the City Health Office, PNP-Women and Children Protection Desk, and the Schools Division.
The event was attended by around 200 elementary students and 40 teachers from 20 schools; 30 students and 12 teachers from public high schools; 26 BCPC Child Representatives, 26 barangay VAWC desk officers, women’s organization leaders, and barangay leader, among others.
Organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office, the event underscored Victorias’ commitment to a comprehensive approach in supporting the welfare of Victoriasanon children. ||
