NPA militiaman yields 6 guns, ammunition

A suspected New People’s Army militiaman was apprehended in joint military and police operations Nov. 6 in Sitio Mabato, Brgy. Talaon, La Libertad in Negros Oriental, following pursuit operations against fleeing rebels encountered by the 62nd Infantry Battalion soldiers in Guihulngan City, also in the province.

Tony Elod, alias Tonyo, a member of Yunit Militia of Central Negros 1, under the Komiteng Rehiyon Cebu, Bohol, Negros, yielded a .38 caliber revolver with six ammunition, and a homemade 12 gauge shotgun with six ammunition, the 62nd Infantry Battalion said in a report.

Elod told the 62IB that he was tasked by his fleeing comrades to monitor the location of government forces, and entrusted several firearms to him for safekeeping.

Acting on information provided to them by Elod, the 62IB also later recovered a 357 Magnum revolver, two .38 caliber revolvers, and another homemade shotgun./GB
