The New People’s Army Leonardo Panaligan Command has claimed responsibility for the death of Civilian Active Auxiliary member Mico Dinoy on Jan. 28 in Sitio Mansalahid, Barangay Luz, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

NPA spokesperson Ka JB Regalado, in a statement, said that the killing of Dinoy, who was assigned at the Paradise detachment in Sitio Pucatod, Barangay Imelda, Guihulngan City, was successfully carried out by a Special Partisan Operation team.

Regalado justified the punitive action against Dinoy, whom he had linked to many alleged abuses committed against the people, making him a legitimate target.

Dinoy, 28, was waylaid and shot dead on Jan. 28 by communist rebels, while on his way home to the barangay.

Col. Michael Samson, 303rd Infantry Brigade acting commander, said that Dinoy was not on duty and was driving a “habal-habal” at the Luz-Hinakpan road, when he was killed.

Pursuit operations by the Guihulngan police, in tandem with the 62IB soldiers, led to the arrest of two minors, who were pinpointed by witnesses to have served as “look-outs” of the armed perpetrators, Samson added. – GB
