The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. said Monday, May 22, that its average residential rate this billing month of May decreased by P0.5361 per kilowatt-hour.

This means that its consumers will be paying P13.1344/kWh, from last month’s rate of P13.6705/kWh.

The decrease was due to reductions in the generation rate by 3.90 percent and the fuel costs of power generators Palm Concepcion Power Corporation and Panay Energy Development Corporation, where Noneco is getting its supply, it advisory said.

The two other electric cooperatives serving consumers in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental earlier announced increases in their power rates for May.

The Central Negros Electric Cooperative said its average residential rate is P12.9637/kWh, from last month’s P12.7371/kWh, or an increase of P0.2266 per kilowatt-hour.

The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative’s rate, meanwhile, is at P14.5769/kWh, or a hike of P0.1913/kWh, from the P14.3856/kWh cost in April.

Ceneco and Noceco attributed the upward adjustments to increases in total generation charges, particularly the price of electricity in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market./CGC
