President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assured expelled Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. that there is no threat to his life.
“Sa lahat ng mga sinasabi ni Arnie Teves na takot siya sa buhay niya, wala kaming report na ganun. Walang nagbabanta sa buhay niya,” Marcos said, referring to Teves, when asked by reporters on the sidelines of the ceremonial energization of the Cebu-Negros-Panay 230kilovolt backbone project at the NGCP substation in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City April 8.
Teves was arrested in Dili, East Timor March 21 while playing golf at the Top Golf Driving Range and Bar, the Department of Justice earlier said, adding that his extradition to the Philippines is being worked out by the National Central Bureau in Dili, in coordination with a team from NCB-Manila and the Dili Philippine Embassy.
The former solon, who is facing multiple murder charges in line with the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and nine others in March last year, refused to come home allegedly due to threats to his life.
Marcos and other government officials have been calling on Teves to return to the Philippines and face the charges against him.
He was assured of fair proceedings and of due process. | CGC
