San Carlos City Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona said March 12 that the current tricycle fare rates remain in full force and effect, and drivers or operators who insist on collecting higher fares must be reported to authorities for appropriate action.

Carmona and the Sangguniang Panlungsod of San Carlos debunked information circulating online and on social media regarding an alleged increase in motorcab fares, amid the soaring prices of petroleum products.

“The supposed fare adjustment has not yet been formally submitted to the SP for consideration. Until such time that a proper proposal is filed and duly approved through the legislative process, the current fare rates under Ordinance 22-09 must be strictly observed,” the SP stressed.

Per the ordinance approved in 2022, tricycle fare rates range from P12 to P35, depending on distance.

The city government said it is mindful of the current fuel crisis and its impact on both commuters and transport operators. “But while the City recognizes the challenges faced by drivers, any adjustment to motorcab fares must follow the proper legislative process to ensure fairness and protect the welfare of the riding public.” ||
