There will be no extra bonus for Capitol employees this Yuletide season.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said this is because of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

“It’s only up to 14th month bonus. Other than extra, there will be none,” Lacson said.

“We really spend a lot, also for COVID,” he added.

Last year, the Negros Occidental provincial government employees each received an additional bonus of P60,000, aside from the 13th and 14th months benefits, that are usually distributed in May and November, respectively.

The Christmas party of Capitol employees at the SMX Convention in Bacolod City has also been cancelled.

But Lacson said he will allow Capitol departments to hold their respective parties while strictly complying with health protocols, such as physical distancing, and wearing of masks and face shields.

“Christmas is in our hearts,” Lacson said when he was asked if it will be a sad Christmas for Capitol employees.

“I think what is important is that we can celebrate it with our family. I’m sure that there will always be food on the table,” he added.

Lacson said there is need to mellow down the celebration while a COVID vaccine is still not available.

“We just make up for it next year,” Lacson said. -GPB
